The Eyes of the Dragon | Stephen King

Title: The Eyes of the Dragon Author: Stephen King This isn't even close to being one of my favorite books by him, but it's still good. My favorite part about it is that the villain--Flagg--seems to be the same person as the villain in The Stand  (which is hands down my favorite by Stephen King). Flagg is also apparently in The Dark Tower  series. I have only read the first book in that series, but I'm getting ready to start the second. I did not care for the first Dark Tower  book, though. I know, I know. I'm sorry. It's just not my thing. My opinions on the other works of Stephen King aside, The Eyes of the Dragon  was a fun read. It is not Stephen King's typical writing style, which I both liked and didn't like. It was nice to have a different style of writing after spending the last three years reading the works of Stephen King, but at the same time, it wasn't really what I was wanting from a Stephen King novel. The characters were well-writt...

The Handmaid's Tale | Margaret Atwood

Title: The Handmaid's Tale Author: Margaret Atwood The Handmaid's Tale took me an embarrassingly long time to read, mostly because I did not enjoy the book at all until I was about halfway through it. It took me a while to get used to Atwood's writing style, but once I did, I was hooked. I have only watched part of Season 1 of the show, so I can't speak to how closely the show follows the book, but I will say that I found the book haunting and eerily reminiscent of current events. This is amazing, since it was written over thirty years ago. Though I ultimately think it's a worthwhile read, since it took so long for me to get into it, I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Whisper Me This | Kerry Anne King

Title: Whisper Me This Author: Kerry Anne King I got Whisper Me This  on Amazon's First Reads in July. It had just came out, and it had good reviews. I have a pretty extensive To Be Read pile, so I don't generally get to new books right away, but this one seemed so promising that I decided to jump it to the top of the list. I was really disappointed. The story is okay, though it's a bit predictable. My two biggest problems with the book are that the author doesn't seem to have any understanding of the proper use of commas and that the characters are far too one-dimensional to be interesting. The only parts of the book that I truly enjoyed were the excerpts from Leah's journal. To be completely honest, I would have far preferred to have the story be about her rather than having it be about her daughter. She was more complex, and her story was devastating. I think the book would have had more impact if it was more about Leah. All in all, it wasn...

Drums of Autumn | Diana Gabaldon

Title : Drums of Autumn Author : Diana Gabaldon  The fourth book in the Outlander series feels a little all over the place at first, but Gabaldon masterfully pulls all the plot lines together and makes the book just as enjoyable, if not more enjoyable, than the preceding books. I look forward to the next book. Five out of five stars.
