The Handmaid's Tale took me an embarrassingly long time to read, mostly because I did not enjoy the book at all until I was about halfway through it. It took me a while to get used to Atwood's writing style, but once I did, I was hooked. I have only watched part of Season 1 of the show, so I can't speak to how closely the show follows the book, but I will say that I found the book haunting and eerily reminiscent of current events. This is amazing, since it was written over thirty years ago. Though I ultimately think it's a worthwhile read, since it took so long for me to get into it, I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
